Kathryn W. Shelton

Kathryn Evangeline Weathers Shelton, longtime resident of Virginia Beach, died November 2, 2012, in her home. She was 77. A native of Laurens, South Carolina, Kathryn came to Virginia as a young woman and obtained her license in cosmetology. She owned and operated a salon for many years, giving a listening ear to her customers and making lifelong friendships. She was the widow of Dr. Jackson E. Shelton, whom she loved to travel with, dote on grandchildren with, and whom she took care of faithfully. Kathryn was active in the Episcopal church for many years and was often in service of friends, neighbors, and family. Survivors include her mother and brother, Christine Armstrong and Ernest ”Buddy” Weathers of Vernon Hill, Virginia; three stepchildren Judy G. Miller and her husband Frank B. Miller of Morganton, North Carolina, Stephen D. Shelton and his wife Diane R. Shelton of Powhatan, Virginia, and Gary J. Shelton of Virginia Beach; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her dear friends Linda Geers, and Daniel and Elizabeth Ford and their children. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 10th at (time pending) at the chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Norfolk. Woodlawn Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
