Chief Leo Daniel Esposito (RET)

Leo Esposito, 91, of Chesapeake, died 30 May 2024, peacefully at home. He was born in Manhattan, New York, 18 July 1932, the proud son of the late Luis Esposito and Rose Patti Esposito. He was also predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Antonia Rivera Lorenzo as well as his sister, Concetta Higgins. From 1951 to 1975, Chief Esposito (RET) proudly served his country as a part of the United States Navy. There he was awarded with Navy Good Conduct 4 stars; China Service; Navy Occupation; National Defense 1 star; Korean Service 2 star; UN Korean Service; ROK War Service. After his career with the Navy, Leo retired from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an Electronic Technician with 28 years of service. Leo led a diverse and fulfilling life marked by his varied careers and deep dedication to his family. He was avid sports fan that loved his New York teams, especially the Yankees. Leo enjoyed tinkering and fixing things around the house. He was a big fan of the classic movies, mostly westerns. Most notable is that he looked for the good in others, and always offered love and advice. Leo is cherished in memory by his daughter; Maria Raffa, son; Michael Esposito (Kim); six grandchildren; Robert, Christina, and Ricardo Raffa, Justin and Isabella Esposito, and two great grandchildren; Carmen and Sebastian Elshant. Leo’s spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him. His legacy of love, creativity and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 2 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502.
