Leslie Purvis Bell

Leslie Purvis Bell, age 89, passed away September 7, 2009. Leslie was born in England and came to the United States when he was 5. He enlisted in the Navy , where he served for twenty years and retired as a chief petty officer, he then work for the Civil Service until retirement and ran his own business. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Mr. Bell was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Sachon and son-in-law, Thomas Dunn. He is survived by his wife and friend of 64 years, Alfreda H. Bell; two daughters, Winifred F. Dunn of Chesapeake and Patricia A. Filipowski and her husband, Joseph of Norfolk. Grandchildren, Christine Squire, Thomas R. Dunn, III, Michael Sean Dunn, Peter Sachon, Jessica Egerton and Leslie Michael Sachon. Six great grandchildren. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM Thursday at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. A funeral mass will be conducted Friday at 1 PM in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the U. S. Navy.
