Linda Lee Byers, 81, passed away on June 19, 2026. A resident of Newport News, Virginia, Linda was a native of Norfolk, Virginia, and a faithful member of Park Place Baptist Church. She graduated from Maury High School and attended Chowan Junior College in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.
From an early age, Linda approached life with steady purpose and a strong work ethic. Still a teenager, she set out for Washington, D.C., beginning a long and distinguished Civil Service career. Her first position was with Air Force Systems Command at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. Over the years, she transferred between the Air Force and the D.C. Police Department, gaining a wide range of experience and earning the respect of those who worked alongside her. After twenty-two years, she relocated to this area, carrying with her a deep appreciation for her time in D.C. and the many enriching roles and experiences she found there.
Upon returning, Linda continued her service at Oceana Naval Air Station and later at the U.S. Probation Office in Norfolk. With devotion to duty and a generous spirit that marked both her professional and personal life, she retired in 2001 after more than thirty-five years in Civil Service.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest R. and Bernice L. Clark. She is survived by her son, Donald A. Byers; daughter-in-law Sarah L. Byers; and three grandsons, Austin R., Preston A. and Mason J. Byers. Survivors also include a brother, Charles R. Clark, and nieces, Christine R. Soderberg and Laura M. Barnes and their families.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be conducted at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502 on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 10:00 AM.
