Obituary of Liwanag "Lee" Monsayac Ongkingco
Liwanag Monsayac Ongkingco, 84, of Virginia Beach, VA was called home to God the morning of Sunday, January 23, 2022. She was born on November 10, 1937 to the late Salvador and the late Pia Monsayac in Rizal, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. She was one of eleven siblings. She attended Manila Central University and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. She married Alberto Ongkingco on July 6, 1957. She sacrificed her career as a Pharmacist to immigrate to the US to join her husband. She was a devoted Navy wife and raised 5 children as well as her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other children of family friends. Liwanag was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of St. Matthew’s for over 40 years. She instilled the importance of faith in God and family to her children and grandchildren. She always encouraged people to be kind to each other as well as forgiving. Even when she was sick, she was considerate to others – always calling to check on everyone, providing guidance when needed and words of encouragement. She was the cornerstone of her family. Liwanag also loved spending time with her grandchildren, cooking (she was the best cook), gardening, and playing Bingo. In addition to her loving husband of 64 years, Alberto, she is survived by her children: Emmanuel “Noel” Ongkingco, Eleanor “Elly” Buenviaje (Bernardo), Marie “Glory” Saniano (Jeffrey); Rachel Noble (late Pedro) and Arlene Ealey (Reynaud). She will be missed dearly by her grandchildren: Morgan, Jenna, Jacob, Sarah, Branden, Trevor, Emily, Madison as well as her great grandchildren: Quinn and Callie. Also left to cherish her memories are her sister, Loreto Marcelo (Virgilio), her brother Felix Munsayac (Dominga), many nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family will receive friends at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, Virginia, 23502, on Friday, February 4, 2022, from 5:30PM to 8PM Eastern time with the memorial service starting at 6PM. A Catholic mass will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Saint Matthew’s Catholic Church, 3314 Sandra Lane, Virginia Beach, VA 23464, at 11AM Eastern time. *We ask that you arrive 15 minutes before mass begins.
