Mother Lois joined the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Norfolk, Virginia location at age 22 with her 3 children at that time. She joined the church with her late mother, Helen Hodnett, and her siblings. Bishop S. C. Johnson was presiding and passed away after the following year of her church membership.
(Mother) Lois was baptized and received the gifted of the Holy Ghost simultaneously.
She served faithfully throughout Bishop S. McDowell Shelton's reign as a missionary, usher, cooking, cleaning, and singing in the young adult choir. She also worked in the church finance office during the weekends. Mother Lois Lee was known for her superb cooking, sewing skills, and lending wise advice to the young people in the church.
By age 32, (Mother) Lois had birthed 12 children. She loved the Lord with all her heart and thirsted for the word. She taught all of her children knowledge of the Holy Bible and raised them up in the church that they may know to worship only God!
Minister Anthony Lamb's mother, the late Shirley Lamb and Deacon Bobby Ward's mother, Lillie Ward were Mother Lois’ best friends and comrades. It’s not a surprise that Mother Lois’ oldest son, Roosevelt Jr. married Mother Lillie Ward’s daughter, June Ward-Lee.
Mother Lois attended the local community college in Virginia Beach and received her secretarial certification. She worked for the state of Virginia at the Virginia Employment Commission and retired after nearly 30 years of service.
Mother Lois’ health began failing her some 15 years ago as her daughters took turns in providing for her care. Her daughter Leonia assisted her in her first diagnosis of slight dementia. A few months later, Mother Lois was transported to Georgia by her younger daughter Gloria accompanied by Theresa, her older daughter to receive more attentive and intensive care. One year later, Mother Lois was diagnosed with dementia-Alzheimer’s type. Her health continued to dwindle where she was no longer able to speak, feed herself or drink without assistance. She was totally bedridden with contracture when she slipped away into God’s capable hands June 25, 2022.
Mother Lois Virginia (Hodnett) Lee leaves behind: The father of her children, Roosevelt Lee Sr.; two brothers, Dennis and Peter Hodnett, one sister, Lillie (Hodnett) Butts; ten children: Sylvia, Roosevelt Jr. (June), Theresa, Leonia, Gloria (Emanuel), Benjamin, Gilbert, Kenneth, Claudia, and Bruce; a slew of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
The family is grateful to the staff at Westbury of Conyers, GA Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, to the personal caregiver, Chatice Jones, and the Brightmoor Hospice team for the love and care of our dear mother and grandmother Lois. May Mother Lois finally rest in peace, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
