

VIRGINIA BEACH – Margaret Lucille Howell, 91, died peacefully at home on January 14, 2017, surrounded by family. She entered into the presence of the Lord fortified by the rites of the Holy Catholic Church.
Lucille was born in Portsmouth, VA on March 8, 1925, the daughter of the late Christine O and Arent S Larsen. She spent her formative years in the Panama Canal Zone. At the age of 12, she met her husband to be Captain Jack A Howell. They married in 1946, and she will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, nurturing mother, and exemplary homemaker. A kind and gentle soul, she dearly loved her husband, always looked out for others’ needs, and reared her children in the way of virtue.
While her husband served in the Merchant Marine, Navy and Coast Guard, they made homes throughout the southeast US including Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Fairfax, New Orleans, and Wilmington, NC.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 70 years, Captain Jack A Howell USCG Ret., and their five children: Lynn, Cheryl Parker, Ken (Kathy), Dave (Kathy Andersen), and Pam (Bill) Wilgus. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Christopher Parker, Ashley (Mike) Twardy, and Nicholas.
A visitation will be held from 4 PM to 6 PM on Thursday, January 19th at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 AM on Friday, January 20th in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with a reception in St. Gregory the Great afterward.
