From 1947 to 1967, Chief Janabajab (Ret.) dedicated 21 years of his life serving his country in the United States Coastguard. As a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, he navigated in the eastern Pacific Ocean and Antarctica, earning awards and commendations, including the Coast Guard Commendation Ribbon and the Coast Guard Achievement Medal. He then went on to work for the United States Postal Office and retired after 25 years of service.
On January 24, 1980, Mario married his sweetheart, Eden Tiongco. Together, they had two daughters, Sugar Isip and Peaches Rivero, son-in-laws, Jason Isip and William Rivero, and six grandchildren, Ryder Talan, Jaelyn, Maddox, Kaia, Hudson “Pipa”, and Avery Jace.
Mario was an active and faithful member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ). His dedication and devotion as a pillar Deacon was an inspiration to so many. He continued to share stories and advise his children and grandchildren the importance of faith and prayer.
Mario was a man of few words who led by actions, he was humble, a friend to many, and always put others before himself. He loved the simple things in life, especially spending time with his family.
We are sincerely grateful to the many family and friends who have given us support and comfort during this time of loss.
He will be greatly missed.
