

Marjorie Averitt Oliver, 87, a longtime resident of Virginia Beach, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2008 in her home in Newport News. Born August 15, 1920 to the late Purdie R. and Maggie Bristow Averitt in Roberson County, N.C.. Marjorie was a faithful member of Norview Baptist Church for many years where she was also a member of the Five Pointers. She loved to spend time with her family, particularly her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her two sons, Thomas B. Carpenter and his wife, Mable, of Virginia Beach and Jack E. Oliver and his wife, Jacquelyn Whaler, of Chesapeake; six grandchildren, James A. Oliver, Belinda L. Bonelli, Billy Carpenter, Lynn Ferrier, Cheri Malloy, and Karen Dupont; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Averitt of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Joanne Lopeman of Fayetteville, N.C. and Millie Ashurst and her husband, Norman, of Cedar Ridge, CO.; and a close and special friend, Kitty Owens of Virginia Beach. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil A. Oliver. A celebration of Marjorie's life will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, January 14, 2008 in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, with interment to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Norview Baptist Church Pew Bible Fund.
