Michael Allan "Mike" Parker enjoyed 72 years with family and friends before passing on to heaven November 27, 2019.

Born on August 22, 1947 and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, Mike graduated from Norview High School. During that time, he met the one and only love of his life, and wife of 51 years, Linda Miller. Growing up, they spent time with Lindaโ€™s family, sharing family meals, fishing and vacationing in the OBX. Together they had two children, Kimberly Solis (Brian) and Chris (Jennifer), and instilled his love of travel and sense of adventure with them. Later in life, Mike enjoyed evening outings listening to beach music with his wife and friends. They traveled throughout the country and the Caribbean together. Mike was blessed with three grandchildren: Ava, Logan, and Hayden. He truly cherished spending quality time and creating special memories as their Granddaddy.

Career-wise, Mike was a self-made man. He excelled in the grocery business in Tidewater, rising to executive leadership positions and eventually co-founded his own grocery store chain. Mike loved keeping busy and worked until he was 71, retiring as a licensed realtor. While Mike had more than his share of medical ailments over the years, he never complained.

Nineteen years ago, Mikeโ€™s brother-in-law, Mark, donated a kidney to him. In doing so, he gave Mike a new lease on life and he was forever grateful to God while living every day to its fullest. Every year they celebrated the anniversary of that bond.

Mike was predeceased by his mother, Freddie, and his father, Foy High. Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Brenda, the Miller family, the High Family, nieces, nephews, and many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the PKD Foundation in Mike's honor.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk. The family will begin to receive guests on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 12pm, with a Celebration of Life in the Woodlawn Chapel at 1pm, and inurnment to follow within the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. I called on Mike as a food broker while he was at Giant Open Air and Farm Fresh. Mike was great to call on and always treated me fairly.
I am so very sorry for your loss and will pray God's peace and comfort for the family.
I notified Mike's good friend in the grocery business Charlie Phillips who now lives in Florida and he was as shocked as all were when we saw the obituary in the paper.
May God bless you during this very difficult time.

Marilyn and I were so blessed to know , and in Marilyns case, work with Mike . He was always so upbeat and cheerful when ever he was around . Everyone knew he had many health issues, but , when you were with him , you felt he had more energy then anyone in the room . We will miss his kind smile , and the way he cared about everyone. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends . God Bless .

Sad day today seeing that probably my best friend through out life has passed. Mike, Linda my wife Karen and I shared what were probably the best years of our young lives. Our teens. While going to Norview High school in the 60's. We introduced Mike and Linda to each other in 65. We double dated went to the Larramore Lawns teen club dances,Rouges, you name it we went there. Norview football games the prom and to the Norview class Reunions the last the 50th in 2018. Every time we got together it was just like time stood still, going down memory lane and laughing the whole time. Like the lyrics of that song, "Those were the days my friends we thought they'd never end ". We traveled the road of life together laughing as went. I'll miss my forever friend grateful for our time together and sad it's over. Love and miss you Mike, Bev.

Mike Parker, a man who I had worked with for several years in Real Estate, was always willing to share his knowledge. He was also one I knew when he was in the grocery business. Friends like Mike you never forget. May he rest in piece, and finds is Mansion in the sky.

Michael will certainly be missed by all of his cousins and their spouses as we all enjoyed his company, his great story telling about the family history and valuable memories at our numerous family reunions. He had a great smile, always positive and very genuine. He set a great example for his younger cousins to follow. My heart goes out to Linda, Kim, Chris and the grandchildren. What a huge loss you will have to endure, but what an amazing man you all had the pleasure of knowing. I am deeply sorry for your loss and I have you all in my thoughts and prayers. Please accept my sincere condolences and love. Debbie Barrier
