“Uncle Mike”, as he was affectionately known to his friends and family, was born on January 3, 1958 in West Virginia and moved to Chesapeake as a child, where he attended Deep Creek High School. On October 6, 1978, he married Brenda Kappes, his wife of 38 years, with whom he had four children.
During his life, Mike worked for Dolphin Shipyard, Macson’s Inc., and Kappes Construction. At his time of death, Michael worked for Shane’s Services in both the electrical and construction divisions.
Mike was a loving; open-hearted man who would literally give you the shirt off of his back. He never met a stranger, was the life of any party, and could always be found with a smile on his face. His favorite pastimes were listening to music, playing pool, hanging out with his loved ones, and watching the Dallas Cowboys.
Mike leaves behind his wife Brenda; sons Michael Jr., Eric, and Brandon; mother Josephine; sister Stacy Hernandez; daughter-in-laws Brittany, Nikki, and Kira; grandchildren Destiney, Justin, Preston, Sophia, Emily, Caylee, Harley, and Koda; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Jesse Leroy Sims; brother Bradley Sims; sister Cathy Jo Mayo; daughter Brandy Lynn Sims; and granddaughter Savanna Sims.
