

Nicholas C. Copeland (Nick), our beloved son, father, husband, uncle, grandfather and friend, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 13, 2016. Nicholas was born to the late Thomas Copeland and Elizabeth (Brown) Copeland in Ahoskie, NC. Mr. Nick moved to Virginia at a very early age. Nicholas was preceded in death by his sister Antoinette and son Billy.
Nicholas attended Princess Anne Training Center and graduated with top honors. He completed his education and attended Hampton University for 3 years. Nicholas went on to have exemplary service as a pilot in the United States Army as a Korean War veteran. Mr. Nick was an avid baseball lover. He so loved the sport, he would catch a baseball in a paper bag! He went on to play centerfield in the United Negro Baseball League. Nicholas was a cherished employee of the Virginia Beach Public School system and finally retired after 25 years of service at Kingston Elementary School, which he loved dearly, as they did him.
Leaving to cherish many memories and love, is his loving wife of 47 years, Mrs. Sandra Copeland of the home “His shining star”; daughters, Debra, Robin, Nadine; sons, Ricky Scott and Darrell Carter; 7 grandchildren, as well as a host of devoted nieces, nephews, family and friends.
