

Norma B. Barnes, 91, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2015. . She was born on March 14, 1924 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Norma passed away as a result of a broken heart. Her husband of 72 years, soulmate, and best friend, Hassell Barnes predeceased her by two months. Norma is survived by her two sons, Lee Barnes and Mike Barnes, her daughter-in-law Denise Barnes; grandchildren Brittney Boyce, her husband Mark Boyce, Michael Lee Barnes, Tommy Barnes, Macie Barnes, Bryce Barnes, and great-grandsons Blake and Luke Boyce. Norma was very active in church, civic and social activities over the years. Norma’s great loves in life were her family, her church, her friends and her bridge clubs. Norma was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church, various bridge clubs, Larkspur Garden Club, Suburban Women’s Club, Ocean Park Women’s Club and Eastern Star. Norma was also a founding member of Calvin Presbyterian Church. She was active in civic and volunteer organizations to support charities for over 50 years. She greatly enjoyed bridge and the many friends who played the game and bonded with her. Norma and Hassell did extensive traveling during their 36 years of retirement. She will be remembered lovingly by her family, friends, bridge club partners and everyone she had the opportunity to share a kind moment. Norma was always willing to give a kind ear and a warm heart to everyone she knew. Norma will be greatly missed. Services will be held on Wednesday at Providence Presbyterian Church, 5497 Providence Road, Virginia Beach, VA. The viewing will be held at 11:00am and services at 12:00pm.
