

Perry Lee Gibbs was born March 27, 1946 to the late Harry and Charlotte Gibbs in North Carolina.
Perry was educated in the North Carolina Public School system where he graduated from Davis High School-Hyde County in 1964, a class with 18 students 9 boys and 9 girls.
After graduating high school, Perry moved to New York where he was drafted in the United States Army and proudly served his country. While fighting in the Vietnam War, Perry became injured and moved to Hawaii where he was able to receive medical treatment and attention from the Veterans Hospital. While in the Army, Perry received several accolades and medals, a few to include; National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Service Medal (1st Award), Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Sharpshooter Badge w/rifle bar.
Perry was a quite the entertainer, you could find him singing and playing the guitar throughout his early years, or even telling a few jokes. Dancing was a passion of Perry's and he would get everyone on board to dance right along with him. Perry could do the Malibu split the same way Jackie Wilson use to drop down and hit the floor, the life of the party.
Perry was about family, he would visit regular with his mother and father in New York, as he was "Mama's Baby" and could do no wrong. Perry accepted the Lord at a very young age, he was a faithful member of Hannah Baptist Church in Middle Creek, North Carolina. More recently Perry rededicated himself to Christ in Chesapeake.
Even in our sadness, we accept the will of Our Lord and we praise God for a life well lived. Though Perry may be gone from sight, he will forever be in our hearts. In Heaven, Perry will reunite with his devoted wife Yolanda; loving parents Harry and Charlotte, brothers John Gibbs, Thomas Lee Gibbs, and James Gibbs.
Perry leaves to cherish his memories his children Faith Hope Gibbs-Moody, Perry Lee Gibbs Jr., Schanel Gibbs Waite (husband Denry M. Waite), Jeremy Jamie Gibbs, Jason Samuel Gibbs (wife Jamilah), Angela Francis; five grandchildren Jason Gibbs, Jamiyah Gibbs, Jaylah Gibbs, Matthew Gibbs, Briana Baker; sister Ruth White; brothers Harry Gibbs, Joseph Gibbs and Charles Gibbs; nephews/younger brothers; Donald White (wife Lillian), Anthony White (wife Michelle), Byron White (wife Angela); a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A graveside memorial service will take place within Woodlawn Memorial Gardens 6309 East Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502 on Saturday January 6, 2024 at 2:00pm.
