

Richard Paul McMullen, Sr., “Capt. Mac”, 73, passed away peacefully at his home March 9, 2014. He was born August 18, 1940 in Elm Hall, MI to the late Paul and Eleanor McMullen. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Judith Anne McMullen. He is survived by his only son, Richard McMullen, Jr., his five daughters, Kristina Andrews (Roger), Rebecca Barbeau (Bruce), Colleen Marshall (Jimbo), Kathleen Thomas (Paul), and Amy McMullen; 11 grandchildren, Kendall, Timmy, Jennifer (Alex), Melissa (Jon), Gus, Keith, Kyle, Shelby (Joe), David, Hayley and Kelsey, and five great granddaughters, Lexi, Reese, Madyson, Annabella and Ava; his sister, Pauline “Sis” Hollinshead, two brothers, Charles McMullen ( Thea), Robert McMullen, and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. In 1958, he joined the United States Navy, where he was stationed in Norfolk, VA and retired after 21 years of service. He followed his military career as a Tugboat Captain with Tidewater Construction and then McAllister Towing. Richard enjoyed the simple things in life such as watching his favorite sports teams – Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and University of Michigan. He valued his time with his family by taking road trips, playing cards and having numerous family cookouts and gatherings. He coached his children in youth sports, and then became a spectator watching his children and grandchildren at Azalea Little League. He was a great family man, a Husband, a Dad, a Grandfather, and a Great Grandfather and will be missed by all. A funeral will be held at 11:00am, Friday, March 14, 2014 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will follow immediately at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
