Richard Ray Wessel

Born February 15, 1952, in Rapid City, South Dakota, Rich was a devoted husband, father, and cherished friend to many. His life reflected a steady faith and a generous heart—shown in his kindness, quick wit, and unwavering love for his family, animals, and church. Rich proudly served 20 years in the United States Navy and later completed four years with the National Guard.

Rich is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Sharon; his children, Richie Wessel, Shawn Brown, and Jeanna Hoaglund; and his five grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Mackenzie, Patricia, and Everett. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family takes comfort in God’s promises and in the hope of reunion through faith.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff at Waterside Health & Rehab Center for the outstanding care, compassion, and comfort they provided to Rich in his final days. Your kindness was a blessing to him and to all who love him.

A small memorial service will be held at New Life Christian Center in Norfolk, Virginia, in the coming days, as family and friends gather to give thanks for Rich’s life and to celebrate the hope we have in Christ.
