Roger "Robbie" Franklin Robinson

Roger Franklin Robinson Sr. went to be with his Lord and savior on Friday, October 4, 2013 in the loving care of his family. Roger was born March 26, 1932 to the late Baxter and Cassie Mae Robinson, in Winston Salem, North Carolina and was one of 5 children. Robbie is predeceased by his parents, two siblings Leo and Ruby, and daughter Melinda Joines.

Robbie attended Goldston High School in Goldston NC. He enjoyed playing, and coaching baseball. He was a hard worker who was known for excellent work as a Crane Operator where he received his 60 year certificate with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 147. Robbie was also the Superintendent of Ford Pile Foundation for 50 years.

Robbie Married Rachel Dean Philips in May 1950 and from their union they had 4 children, Roger Jr., Dianna, Michael, and Kelly. He loved and adored his family, and raised them with stern, loving foundation in Christ.

In 2000, after 50 years of marriage, Robbie laid Rachel to rest. It was then in Gods divine wisdom that he sent Robbie another Angel to watch over him by the name of Ruby H. Gaines. They were reunited after 52 years of separation, they dated in high school. They wed in 2003, and combined their two growing families.

Robbie worked until his health began to fail him, and remained strong until the end. He leaves to cherish his living wife Ruby; 6 children Roger Jr. (Dana), Mickey Gaines (Dottie), Dianna Dickens (Tommy), Mike (Debbie), Kelly, Darrell Gaines (Suzanne); 3 sisters Edna Hutchins, Barbara Moody, and Jessie McDaniel; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Viewing will be Wednesday, October 9, 2013 6-8PM and funeral services will be Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 11AM. All services will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk VA 23502. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Albemarle Home Health and Hospice, or charity of your choice.
