Ronald Lage Segerblom

Ron was born on February 16, 1940, in Albany, California, the son of Ralph Gunnar Segerblom and Frances Lage.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Bridget Philomena Bohan Segerblom. He is survived by his sisters, Toni Romley and Kris Moon; his brother, Mike Segerblom; and his three sons, Sean, Kevin, and Scott. He was also the proud grandfather of Nicholas and Eleni, children of Sean and Angela, and Dominic, Max, and Rowan, children of Scott and Adrienne.

Ron spent much of his life in service to his country as an officer in the United States Navy. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Washington and a Master of Business Administration from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He also completed extensive professional training in surface warfare and anti-submarine warfare.

During his naval career, Ron specialized in surface warfare and commanded several ships. He served during the Vietnam War, including in a naval gunfire support role, and later served as a comptroller and manager of Navy clubs throughout Vietnam.

His military service took him and his family around the world. Following Vietnam, Ron served in assignments that included duty as a Naval Attaché to foreign governments. Along the way, Ron, Bridget, Sean, Kevin, and Scott had the opportunity to live in and experience different cultures, including those of Japan, Taiwan, and Pakistan. Those years became an important part of the Segerblom family story.

Ron received numerous awards and decorations during his naval career, including the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with six Bronze Service Stars, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm.

After retiring from the Navy, Ron and Bridget settled their family in Virginia Beach. Never one to stay idle for long, Ron began a second career as an office administrator for a local law firm. He later worked for Virginia Beach City Public Schools as a data support specialist. That position gave him an opportunity he especially valued — mentoring and encouraging boys who needed someone in their corner.

Outside of work, Ron had plenty of interests and usually something to keep him busy. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed tennis, skiing, dancing, and radio-controlled sailing. He remained active in his community through his local civic league and the local SOLO group.

Above all, Ron's life was defined by family, service, travel, friendships, and a willingness to keep taking on something new. From California to the Navy, from assignments around the world to settling in Virginia Beach, he lived a full and interesting life and leaves behind many stories for his family and friends to remember.

Ron will be laid to rest alongside Bridget at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice or to Wounded Warrior Project in Ron's memory.

Visitation will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502 on September 25, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

A Funeral Service will immediately follow the Visitation at the same location from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
