Roy B. Bateman, JR.

Roy B. Bateman, age 88, passed away February 21 at Sentara Nursing Care. Dad was born in Norfolk, VA, January 4, 1921. He retired as a Captain in the Naval Base Fire Dept., and from the Coast Guard Reserve as a Warrant Officer 4, and a Veteran of WWII Dad was a life member of the Charles T. Morton Lodge, the Scottish Rites and Khedive Temple. He was an original member of the Khedive Mini Model T's. He drove many children for treatment to the Greenville, SC Shrine Hospital for Children. Dad was a member of Lafayette Presbyterian Church.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Ethel and is survived by his daughters, Elaine Hillers and husband Roger, and Charlene Dodge and husband Herb. Also surviving him are his 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. with a visitation one hour prior to services. The family requests that donations be made to Lafayette Presbyterian Church,1821 Lafayette Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23509 or the Alzheimers Association.
