Ruth Naomi Plank went home on the wings of eagles February 16, 2012, in the presence of loving family members.
Born Aug. 2, 1919, in Altoona, PA (Homer's Gap), She was the youngest and last surviving child of seven born to Hattie (Gaines) and William Miner.
She is predeceased by her husband’s Alton L. Hawbecker of Altoona PA and James D. Plank II of Phillipsburg PA.
Ruth is survived by her children: Gwendolyn H. Stace (Jack), Catherine C. Hayslett, James D. Plank III (Sarah), Cathy Sartor (Charles) and Moletha Plank; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are devoted family member James Dutcher, Irma Royer and lifelong friend Vi Auker-McLaughlin.
During her life, she experienced much and enjoyed traveling with family and friends.
She served her country in WW II as a junior mechanic at Indiantown Gap, near Harrisburg PA. She also had the honor of being a Navy wife for 30 years.
A resident of Ocean View for over 20 years, Ruth spent the past 2 years at Clare Bridge in Virginia Beach. We wish to thank everyone there for their wonderful care and kindness. To Senior Corps, what a blessing you were when we needed you; and to the staff of Sentara Leigh, thank you for the loving care given her in her final days.
As a celebration of her life will take place at a later time. We ask that a contribution be made in her honor to the Alzheimer Assn. Be kind to each other and do a Random Act of Kindness for someone.
