OBITUARY

Susanna Antonia Perron

May 10, 1958March 14, 2020

Susanna Antonia Perron, 61, passed on to Everlasting Life March 14, 2020, peacefully in her home surrounded by family. She was born in the Philippines to Bonifacio and Adela Milan Fontanilla. She was adopted at the age of 10 by her Uncle and Aunt, Roberto and Teodorica Olarti Milan to be able to immigrate to the United States. She is preceded in death by both fathers and sisters Evelyn and Josephina.

Susan met the love of her life, and husband of 40 years, William “Bill” Anthony Perron on May 7, 1976. Together they created her greatest accomplishment, their beautiful family: Anna Marie, Angela (Andrew DeMeritt), William Robert “Robby”, Christina (Keith Rhodes), and grandchildren Madison and Mason DeMeritt and Christian Rhodes. Susan touched the lives of many people and considered all friends her family.

Susan’s mission in life was to serve and was a devout Catholic and active member of The Church of St. Gregory the Great and the New Creation Community. Her mission was evident every single day through her daily Mass attendance, spiritual leadership, volunteer work, warm hospitality, and constant prayer. She has sponsored numerous candidates in the Rite of Christian Initiation, was a co-teacher in St. Gregory’s Religious Education Program, was a leader of St. Gregory’s Youth Ministry (1986-1989), led multiple small faith and prayer groups, served as a member of the Saint Cecilia’s Choir, volunteered with the Town Center Blind Lions Club, Salvation Army, and The Greater Hampton Roads Diaper Bank, and graduated from The Well Spiritual Direction Institute as a certified Spiritual Director. Despite her visual impairment from retinitis pigmentosa, Susan never let it become a handicap. She walked by faith, not by sight.

Susan will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life reception will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Town Center Blind Lions Club Scholarship Fund. It has taken a moment to collect our thoughts and find the words to describe what an inspiring, uplifting, genuine, and spiritual warrior Susan was. No matter the trials & tribulations she weathered, she always acted out of love and with grace. She was very tenacious, and would light up the room with her presence. She made the best pumpkin & banana nut bread during the holidays and was always eager to play Mahjong and Aces. It always made our day that she would make it a point to call or send a text for our birthday's and our wedding anniversary. She never took the simple things in life for granted and always remembered to the take time to stop and smell the roses. She will remain forever in our hearts, there is comfort with knowing heaven gained another angel. All Our Love- Rest In Peace Susan!

While I didn’t know her personally, I am grateful for who she was because it is exemplified in her daughter. I can only imagine what a beautiful light she was to her family and friends... I know how to play Filipino Mahjong, and I believe that in some small way, she had something to do with that. Rest In Peace, your daughter is is good hands. XOXO - Lola & Jaycee

My Sister Susan was brave, positive, strong willed woman. We deeply going to missed her. She left our family in the Phil. at young age, agreed to be adopted by my Uncle Bert & Aunt Julie to have a better future.
We're very proud of her & Bill for raising beautiful, wonderful children's. She never misses calling & singing Happy Birthday to me & my wife. Except this year.
We had good times & created long lasting memories when She & Bill comes to California for a visit. Played cards or mahjong with our family members.
Next day after she passed away, I dreamed that our Lord wants me to give her a ROD (like Moses rod) white & light green colored & middle part an inscription GOD on it. About to pick it up & I woke up. I believe this will guide her to final destination in Heaven.
She will be joining our Dad, Ate Evelyn, diche Josie. RIP Sisters.

Sharing worship and prayer with Susan was as natural as breathing. We spoke to God as well as to each other- both of us living to have lively conversation. We shared the love of Jesus confirming each other in our faith. Susan’s love for God exuded as a joyful sharing of herself as mother and friend. She loved to feed people, showing hospitality to all. May she rest now in the peace of Christ, rejoicing with the angels!

Anytime I went to the Perron household, I was always greeted by Susan with such a brightness. I always felt welcomed, and I will forever remember how gracious it was to have my sweet sixteen celebration in the home of this loving family. I’m sorry for the loss of such a kind and generous person. She will be missed and fondly remembered.

Susan was a vibrant woman. Her daughter Angela was one of my best friends growing up. Susan along with all my best friends mothers became a second mother to me and taught me certain things. She was always so resilient and strong and I always admired that in her. She taught me that faith goes along way. When I was in a motor cycle accident she sent a prayer Shaw to help me heal. I believe it was due to that Shaw and those prayers that helped me recover. She was unbelievably positive and such a great person. I in still can’t believe she’s gone and she is truly missed. She will always be with me.

I’ve known Tina for a handful of years and being around her mom throughout our friendship felt like I knew her my entire life. She was so welcoming with letting people into her home and was always so kind and generous to those around her. From the moment you walked into her home you knew you were in good hands of an amazing person and you would always be taken care of. Susanna was a special person with great energy along with an even greater heart. My favorite memory of her will always be the day of Tina’s and Keith’s wedding and her shouting “ENERGY!!” while Tina was getting ready. It’s memories like that along with many others that will keep her spirit alive. My condolences and thoughts are with Tina and her family during this hard and difficult time. I love you all so much.
