Thomas H. Boyle Jr.

.Thomas H. Boyle, Jr., 91, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Loomis House Nursing home in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Mr. Boyle was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 30, 1919 and lived most of his adult life in the Norview section of Norfolk. He enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII. Later he worked at the Naval Air ReWork Facility in Norfolk for 32 years retiring as Chief Engineer with a staff of 200 people. Subsequently he worked at Newport News Shipbuilding Company for 8 years in the engineering department. An avid stamp collector he is the author of a book “Air Mail Operations During World War II” published in 1998 by the American Air Mail Society. He also gave lectures at the Mariners Museum in Newport News. He graduated in May 1977 from Old Dominion University with a BSME. Mr. Boyle was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Louise P. Boyle; both of his sons, Wayne Boyle, Sr., of Huntsville, Alabama and Thomas H. Boyle, III of Amherst, Massachusetts.

Left to cherish his memory is his oldest daughter, Sandra Mae Boyle of Guntersville, Alabama and second daughter, Kathleen Boyle Tuozzolo of Glen Ridge, New Jersey and her husband, Charles; his daughter’s-in-law, Elizabeth Boyle of Huntsville, Alabama and Nancy Bandman-Boyle of Amherst, Massachusetts and 7 grandchildren.; Kimberly Turner of New York City, Wayne Boyle, Jr. of Knuckle Shoals, Alabama, Nicole Turner of New York City, Christian Boyle of Huntsville, Alabama, Richard Turner of Norfolk, Virginia, James Boyle and his wife Amy of Huntsville, Alabama, and Samuel Boyle of Hadley, Massachusetts he also leaves 6 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 25,2011in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, 818 Norview Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia 23509 with a funeral to follow at 10:00 AM in the funeral home.
