Thomas G. Royal, Jr. November 7, 1941-September 22, 2014 Tom Royal 72, passed away Monday after struggling with Diabetes and Kidney disease. Tom was a quiet man, not one for many words, always loyal and strong that we leaned on maybe too much. He was raised in Elkton, Virginia with a large host of family, plenty of cousins to get into mischief with and run in the hills. His grandma, Lilly Mowbray shaped in him a strong attitude of honesty and hard work. Later he lived in Florida and Richmond, Virginia with his mother Bonnie K. Vires and stepdad Thomas R. Vires. When he turned 17 his mother signed papers so he could join the Navy in November 1958, serving for 30 years. Tom then worked for 16 years as an area Service Manager for the Eastern Seaboard for Electrolux Corp. Tom was a member of the FOE #3204 of Virginia Beach. He was married to Sharon for 44 years and they have 5 children; Tommy, Bobby and Lori Ann of Virginia Beach, Jacob of Norfolk, and Bonnie Ellen of Gillette, Wyoming. He is the proud grandpa of 19 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He is predeceased by his son Roy, parents and 2 grandchildren. The house is quiet without him, but his snack cupboard is still full and everyone knows where it is. I will miss our nightly run to McDonald’s for a hot fudge Sunday and him filling my cubby hole in the car with left over change so I could go get my morning Chic-fil-A coke fix. He didn’t say it in words as much as you would like to hear it, but you knew he loved you. A funeral service will be held Monday, September 29th at 1:00pm at the Bayside Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4873 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach. Cremation and burial will take place at a later date. Family and friends may gather together at the FOE Aerie #3204 Hall at 1061 Newtown Road, Virginia Beach from 2:30-4:30pm for a luncheon and a brief Eagles ceremony at 2:45pm.
