Timoteo M. Saguinsin, age 87, of Virginia Beach, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2023, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dolores (Dolly), and his loving family: his daughter, Donna, son-in-law Owen White, and grandchildren, Christopher and Amalia of Dublin, Ireland; his daughter, Mary, son-in-law, Jon Embry, and grandchildren, Ian and Grey of Virginia Beach, VA; his son, Tim, daughter-in-law, Kim, and grandchildren, Corey and Jacob of Cary, NC. He was predeceased by his brother, Amado, and four sisters, Anita, Lydia, Maxima and Amelia, in the Philippines. Tim will be deeply missed by his family and all his friends.
Tim was born in 1936 with his twin sister, Maxima, to Angel and Sixta Saguinsin in the lakeside town of Angono, Rizal, Philippines. He was educated at local schools and was a keen writer, who became the Tagalog Editor of his high school newsletter, The Rizalian. In 1961, Tim joined the US Navy, where he proudly served for 26 years and retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (CWO4). Tim was one of the most senior members of the Angono Fil-Am community in the Tidewater area and enjoyed participating in many events with his friends and family over the years. In 2004 Tim wrote and published a book of poetry called Buhay Sa Angono: Life in Angono, A Dual Language Book in Filipino and English. In his book, Tim wrote poems in Tagalog about his life in Angono, Rizal, and then had them translated into English so that he could share them with a wider audience.
Tim and his wife, Dolly, were true partners in life for nearly sixty years. Tim placed great importance on family and enjoyed the time he spent with his wife, three children and six grandchildren. During their retirement, Tim and Dolly travelled extensively together and visited several cities across the US, Europe and Asia.
Our family wish to express our deepest gratitude to the medical staff who treated Tim during his illness, especially his Nephrologist, Dr. Madhu Kolli, the staff at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, and the team from Sentara Hospice Services, who provided palliative care and comfort to Tim and supported our family during his home hospice care.
