Vernon James "Jim" Poindexter, 59, passed away peacefully at his home on April 30, 2016. He was born and raised in Chesapeake and is a graduate of Oscar Smith High School. For over 35 years, Jim was a freight line-hauler, and retired at age 57. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and vacations with family in the Outer Banks. To his grandchildren, he will always be "Poppa Jim". Jim will be remembered for his laugh, since of humor and wonderful personality. He will be dearly missed.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Herb Poindexter, and mother, Maxine Poindexter. Left to cherish his memory are his: wife, Nikla Poindexter; son, Jamie Poindexter and wife Hannah; step-son Bobby Hiatt and wife April; step-daughter Megan Lacey and husband Phillip; grandchildren Leah & Rebekah Poindexter and Patrick Lacey; and his siblings Debbie Kowalsky, Mike Poindexter and his wife Judy, and Whitney Poindexter. A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 2pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk, VA 23502
