

Virginia Beach~ Wade Riley Vaught, Jr., 79, died peacefully Friday, August 24, 2010, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Born in Tralee, West Virginia on May 19, 1931, "Pete" as he was fondly referred to, moved to Norfolk, Virginia in 1943, and was a graduate of Norview High School, Class of 1949. He was a veteran, a member of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Pete for over 30 years was an employee of the Norfolk Coca-Cola and Bottling Company, known today as Norfolk Coca-Cola, and retired in 1989. Pete married his lovely wife Irene and moved to Norfolk County, known today as Virginia Beach, in June of 1956. Just last year they happily celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, and this past June 51 years. Mr. Vaught was a member of Haygood United Methodist Church, and an active member for over thirty years of both Aragona Pembroke and most recently the Bayside Lions Club. To break up his retirement years, Pete revisited his childhood occupation as a paper carrier for the Virginian Pilot, delivering in his Aragona Village neighborhood.
Pete was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and Grandfather who will be dearly missed. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Wade R. Vaught, Sr. and Lucille Cahill Vaught, two sisters and their spouses, Betty Jean V. Harrell and her husband Willard and Patricia Lucille V. Reynolds and her husband Gene. He is survived by his wife Irene Ryan Vaught; two daughters, Laura-Dale V. Romeo and her husband Frank, Amy Wade Vaught; granddaughter Amanda Nicole Romeo; his sister Naomi Faye V. Faella and her husband Nicholas, and Leah, "Man's Best Friend."
A private viewing by family will be followed by a memorial service performed by Pastor Fran Cooper with internment immediately following. The service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk. The family will receive friends at a reception following the internment in the Funeral Home Reception Area. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The American Heart Association or the Bayside Lions Club.
