

Virginia Beach, VA Walter Maher Wales, age 79, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 27, 2011 in Virginia Beach General Hospital. Walter was born in Norfolk and spent his life in the area, except for a tour of duty with the U. S. Air Force. He was a Christian and a member of Westwood Hill Baptist Church and a most recently attended Princess Anne Plaza Baptist Church. Walter was a retired Virginia Beach Firefighter, a CPR instructor, a handball player, a real estate broker, and a member of the Masons and Shriners. He was predeceased by his parents, his twin brother and a older brother and a sister. Surviving him is his wife of 55 years, Barbara Branch Wales, one son, Walter "Randy" Wales and his wife, Jamie Lynn and a daughter, Carol Sleight and her husband, David, four grandchildren, Shaun Michael Wales, Teri M. Wales, Caroline Sleight and Maxwell Sleight all of Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends 6 PM to 8 PM Friday, March 4, 2011 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk 23502 and where services to honor Walter will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday with Pastor Ronald W. Lee officiating.
