Wanda Sue Queen, 77, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025. Born in Lee County, VA on April 11, 1947, she moved to Norfolk as a young girl and resided in Norfolk for the majority of her life. Wanda met the love of her life, Josh Queen, and they shared 39 years together. She was a homemaker and together and they raised three children – Connie, Michael, and Tammy.
After her friend Pearl Mann introduced her to the game of Bingo, it quickly became one of her favorite hobbies. Morning, afternoon, or midnight – she loved to play the game of Bingo. She also enjoyed going to the Casino with her daughters and granddaughter Jennifer. Winning was always her goal, but no matter how much or how little she won she always had a great time. She loved yard sales and shopping at Roses, K-mart and having lunch at the lunch counter at Woolworth in downtown Norfolk. She especially loved the weekend outings that Tammy would plan where it was her choice of wherever Wanda wanted to go. One of her favorite places to visit was Maryland where she spent time with her niece and nephew Mary Lou and Steve Barber. Most importantly she loved spending time with her family, especially on Sunday dinner days where she made the best homemade biscuits you would ever taste! Even though she was the best cook, and Josh was the love of her life, nothing aggravated her more than when he would go fishing and throw his catch in the sink!!
Wanda was a devoted mother, wife, friend, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be tremendously missed.
Wanda was predeceased by her mother, Elsie Crider West, her husband Josh Queen, her favorite Aunt Pearl Nevin of Sparks City, Nevada, and her grandson Joshua Arthur Queen.
She is survived by her three children, Connie Sue Kerbs (Alan) of Ivor, VA, Michael Queen (Glenda) and Tammy Gray (Mike) both of Norfolk, VA. In addition, she was also very close with her former son-in-law, Gene Maffei also of Norfolk, VA. She is also survived by seven grandchildren – Jennifer Gray, Travis Maffei, Daniel Maffei, Chelsea Demsko, Megan Queen, Jacob Maffei and Joshua Arthur Queen. She was also known as Gigi to her three great grandchildren Bella, Carter, and Clara.
The family would like to thank Dr. Katharine VanSlyke for the years of care she provided in helping Wanda live a fulfilling and healthy life. A special thank you is also extended to the nursing team and staff at Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital for the attention and love they provided over the last several months as Wanda embarked on her journey to heaven.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 19, 2025 from 10:00am – 11:00am. Immediately after the visitation Wanda’s chapel service will begin at 11:00am followed by interment in the Garden of Peace at 12:00pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow.
