Virginia Beach~ William Brice Hollowell, 94, passed away Oct 10 at his residence. Born and raised early on in Chowan County, NC, Mr Hollowell moved to the Tidewater area as a teenager. Throughout his younger days he helped provide for his siblings and parents by farming, fishing and various jobs. He served in the Army during WW2 and afterwards had a career as a metalsmith at NARF where he retired in 1969 to move to his "weekend house" that he himself had built on the Outer Banks. There, along with fishing and enjoying the seaside atmosphere, he also worked as an independent contractor. He moved back to Tidewater in the mid-1990s to be near his son and family. With his hard-work ethic Mr. Hollowell was a source of inspiration to those close to him and a role model to his relatives. He generously supported and aided his extended family and friends, always willing to lend a helping hand. He was an avid conversationalist with a remarkable memory and he knew no strangers. His strong presence will be sorrowfully missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife and constant companion of 63 years, Mary E. Hollowell; his son, William Lewis Hollowell and wife Maureen; sisters, Jessie Hollowell and Ella Turner; five grandchildren, Cynthia Sacripanti, Stephen Hollowell, Elizabeth Hollowell, Laura Parker, and Fred Carter; and six great-grandchildren. A celebration of William's life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 13, 2007 in the Mausoleum Chapel in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ernest Trueblood officiating. The family will receive friends 7-9:00 PM, Friday. October 12, 2007 in Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. A guestbook may be signed online by visiting www.woodlawngroup.com
