

William (Bill) Joseph Mason, 84 of Norfolk, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 8, 2021. He was born in Princeton, West Virginia to Joseph R. Mason and Virginia L. Mason. After graduating from Granby High School, bill proudly served his nation aboard a ship in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War (1953-57), and was an active member in the American Legion, filling the role of Vice Commander of the American Legion Dalton-Cartier Post 204 at the time of his death. Bill worked on the assembly line of an automotive factor; he retired from the Ford Motor Company after 25+ years. He was an active member of VFW Post 3809 and past member of Moose Lodge.
Bill enjoyed a long and fulfilling life that he shared with his beloved wife, Mary Ann Mason, of 38 years. Bill loved to gather with his friends for league bowling, cruises, and especially trips to the casino at Dover Downs. He lived life exuberantly with laughter and jokes that brought smiles to everyone around him, and he was known for performing acts of generosity to people who he knew were in need. He will be dearly missed by his surviving family members, including his wife, Mary Ann; stepdaughter, Debbie Truett and her husband Jimmy Truett I of Conway, South Carolina; grandsons, Brandon Truett of Chicago, Illinois and Jimmy Truett, II of Conway, South Carolina, and his brother, Gene R. Mason of Newport News, Virginia. He will also be missed by his close friend, Ken Copenhaver. He is predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Jack W. Mason, Bruce A. Mason, and Larry T. Mason, his grandson, Taylor Truett of Conway, South Carolina, his close friend, Ernie Spainhour, and his cherished dog, “Skippy.”
There will be a graveside service set for close family members and friends. The graveside service is set for 10am, Friday, February 12, 2021 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.woodlawnnorfolk.com.
