

William P. “MAC” McKinney, 90 of North Sunland Drive, died January 28 at his home in the tender care of his loving family. He was born on November 25, 1922 in Waynesboro, Georgia. Mac served during World War II in the Army Signal Corps. After his discharge he started a 43 year career with AT&T and made many lifelong friends before retiring in 1984. Mac was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years Patricia E. McKinney. He is survived by his two daughters, Christal Wilburn and her husband Tom and Mary Hendrix and her husband Eddie; one son Bruce McKinney; four grandchildren , Jennifer Rohr and Sean Wilburn, and Matthew and Andrew Hendrix, and two great-grandchildren Ashlynn and Collin Rohr; and a Godchild, Casey Grant. He is also survived by two nieces and two nephews that reside in Savannah Georgia. Mac’s greatest joy was caring for his wife and family and to lend a hand to his daughters while their husbands were out to sea. After retirement Mac spent a lot of happy times with his family fishing, going to the beach and working on his cottages in Kill Devil Hills. Mac was a loving Husband, Father, Papa and great Papa. He will be greatly missed by everyone. A funeral will be held Friday, February 1st at 1:00pm at Memorial United Methodist Church, 804 Gammon Road, Virginia Beach with the Rev. John Coles II officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Mac’s family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, January 31, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk VA 23502. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Memorial United Methodist Church, 804 Gammon Rd. VA Beach VA 23464 or Chesapeake Regional Health Foundation 736 Battlefield Blvd N., Chesapeake, VA 23320 that provided the compassionate hospice care. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kim Hess and all the care providers that assisted the family in taking care of our Dad at his home.
