

Anastatia “Ann” Mae (Welchert) Balch, 88, of Norman, departed this life on April 16, 2011 in Noble, OK. She was born December 17, 1922 in Norman, OK to Anthony “Tony” Joseph Welchert and Ellen “Nellie” Christine (Vinez) Welchert.
Ann graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Norman. Her career included working with her father at his shoe shop, The Golden Rule, and at Eagle Athletic. She later retired from The University of Oklahoma after 22 years as manager of the Kraettli Apartments. Being a talented seamstress, she sewed numerous items including wedding dresses for her daughters. Ann thoroughly enjoyed bowling and traveled over much of the United States participating in tournaments. She was a dedicated OU Fan and only missed one home football game in 25 years. As an avid sports fan, she followed several basketball, baseball and football teams. As her eyesight faded, her daughters aided her in working the daily crossword puzzle. She remained sharp in her ability to solve puzzles.
Ann married A.B. Balch, Jr. on February 9, 1943 and they shared 39 years of marriage before his death in 1982. They were blessed with a large family and looked forward to spending time with them on special occasions and holidays. Ann lovingly welcomed everyone into her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A.B., son Dennis Balch, daughter-in-law Jan Balch, parents Tony and Nellie Welchert, brothers Bill and Joe Welchert, sisters Catherine Fox and Elizabeth Heitz, and great-grandson Jeremiah Paldino.
Survivors include one son Kenny Balch of Marlow, four daughters Susan Wilcox and husband Gary of Noble, Kerry Marsh and husband Gary of Norman, Terry Coltharp and husband Dave of Norman, Sheila Lowery and husband Jerry of Fayetteville, AR, Aunt Marie Welchert, 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and best friend Louise Sides.
Visitation will be held at Primrose Funeral Service on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 8:00 am-8:00 pm. The family will be available from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm.
