Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jerry Hinson of Fernandina Beach, Florida; mother, Barbara Wright of Springfield, Missouri; Ann’s mother passed away five days after Ann did and now joins her in heaven; two children: Barbara Twijnstra Eby (Kyle) from Angel Fire, New Mexico and William Twijnstra, III of Lexington, Oklahoma; grandson, Austin Eby of Angel Fire, New Mexico; brother, Lloyd Wright; sisters: Susie Salsitz, Jennifer Baldwin, and Becky Baldwin Wessel.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Willet Baldwin and step father, Malcolm Wright.
Ann graduated from Parkview high school then went on to graduate from Greenbrier Women’s College in Lewisburg, West Virginia from 1963 to 1965. She also attended both Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia from 1966 to 1967 and Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, Colorado in 1967, where she fostered her talent for designing and fine art. This passion was further developed during the two years she lived abroad in Europe.
On October 5th, 1968, Ann married William Twijnstra, II and from this union were born her daughter, Barbara in Germany, and later her son, William in Beaumont, Texas. Barbara and Will were raised in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Ann was a prolific accomplished watercolor artist whose unique works have been shown at many exhibitions and galleries throughout the South and Southwest. Ann was also talented with her ever present camera, and many of Ann’s beautiful works were laid to canvas from photos that started with her photographs. She was a freelance and graphic artist for a number of years. When she was very young, she watched her great grandmother paint by the hour, she said, “my great grandmother taught her to see as well as paint, and it will in turn, help you rely on the intuitive painter inside you.” She was a realist and expressionistic colorist dealing with classic landscape scenes taken from the Southwest, and the South as well as Europe. She uses bright colors of nature and dramatic light and shadows that enhance her work.
Ann was passionate about cooking and was known for hosting family and friends at her homes in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and New Mexico, whose scenery she so beautifully captured on her many canvasses. Ann’s other great passion was her children, and travelling with them throughout Europe, the United States, and Costa Rica. She brought beauty, culture, and her unique understanding of art to all who had the great fortune to know her.
Ann assumes a matriarchal role within the community and is a proud member of DAR, Magna Charta Dames, Americans of Royal Descent and Knights of the Garter. She also advocates for the benefits of formal education.
Ann volunteered a lot of her time to church in Corpus Christi, St Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. She also volunteered at the Corpus Christi Museum of Natural History and painted murals for them.
Her time at the farm, Bar P Kidd Ranch, consisted of throwing herself into the work and enjoyment of running the ranch and learning the business as well. The ranch, and the garden that she and her son Will kept was a great experience to share together. Learning something new everyday was a tremendous joy. Her love for animals was very special, having a lot of dogs, and horses, and cattle gave her true happiness. She loved her dogs so much, she cherished her Labradors and also took in a number of dogs, that were stray or wandered up the road. And like any guests she always had a meal and bed for them all.
Ann cherished her only grandchild Austin, she was with him from the moment he was born. Austin and Ann loved to cook together, and they shared an interest in fine cuisine, a passion Austin still pursues as his career today. Ann also loved to listen to him play guitar.
She had a big heart filled with care and love. Anns”s, husband, daughter, son, grandson, family and friends meant so much to her and wonderful memories shared together here at the farm.
Many times, people say “…save the best for last.” As her husband of less than two years, I can say that is so true. Ann came along at the right time in my life, I needed her love and I believe she needed mine. In the short time we were together, our souls meshed into one and we laughed, loved, and lived in taking advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity that the Lord gave us. Our initial saying that remains the same today is “…I love you to the moon and back.” We talked on the phone for months before we met in person and we fell in love before we met. The day I finally met her in person, she walked out to greet me with that beautiful smile that only my girl has and a bouquet of gardenias. I knew then that this was my love and my “…best for last.”
