Arnold "Robbie" Gray Robertson Sr.

Robbie was born February 14, 1931, in High Point, North Carolina, during the Great Depression, to Alice Ramsey and Glen Robertson. He was the youngest of four children. His childhood was spent in Danville, Virginia, where he grew up before beginning a life marked by service, hard work, adventure, and an unwavering love for his family.

After graduating from high school, Robbie joined the United States Air Force in 1948. He proudly served his country for 20 years on active duty, including serving in the Vietnam War. Following his retirement from active duty, Robbie continued to serve his country in the Air Force Reserves.

After his military service, Robbie continued his education at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. He went on to work for the State of Oklahoma as a probation and parole officer.

On August 26, 1974, Robbie married the love of his life, Linda, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They shared 52 wonderful years together, building a life filled with family, adventure, laughter, and love.

Robbie was an active man who believed in enjoying life. He had many interests and hobbies, including travel, cycling, boating, snow skiing, woodworking, and spending time outdoors. He loved adventure and remained active throughout his life.

In 1984, Robbie and his son, Arnold Robertson Jr., began Movies Etc., a successful chain of video stores. Together, they owned and operated the business for 31 years, building a successful family business that remained a part of their lives until its closing in 2015, when Robbie retired.

But more than anything, Robbie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His children were his pride and joy, and nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by Linda and the family they built together.

Robbie is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Robertson; his four children, Hope Jamil and her partner, Brad Herrmann, Sabrina Wenum and her husband, Joe, Arnold Robertson Jr. and his wife, Katherine, and Kelly Wimberley and her husband, Brett; five grandchildren, Allia Romero, Cayce Jamil, Reid Jamil, Micheal Marotte, and Riley Robertson; five great-grandchildren, with a sixth great-grandchild on the way; and Rowdy, his faithful four-legged companion.

His family will remember him for his strength, independence, sense of adventure, love of animals, devotion to those he loved, and the countless memories he created throughout his 95 years. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the generations to come.

Robbie lived a long and full life, devoted to his country, his family, and the many things that brought him joy. While he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing that he is at peace and that his memory will live on in all those fortunate enough to have known and loved him.

A Celebration of Life for Robbie will be held Monday, August 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Primrose Funeral Service, 3901 N. Flood Ave., Norman, OK 73069.

Both causes were close to Robbie’s heart, reflecting his lifelong love of animals and his family’s desire to support continued research toward better treatments and a cure for Parkinson’s disease.

His family is grateful for the love, friendship, and support shown to Robbie throughout his life and especially during his final days.
