Barbara Alice Hartup (née Windress) passed away peacefully on January 19th, 2025, in Norman, OK. Affectionately known as “Bub” to her family, Barbara was born January 2nd, 1949, on a U.S. Naval Base in Newfoundland, Canada to William George and Ida Louise Windress. Barbara was one of four daughters born to Bill and Ida: Louise Alma (1943-1992), Elizabeth Ann (b. 1947), and Kathleen Anita (1952-2005).
Her father, Bill, served in the U.S. Navy and her mother Ida was a homemaker and nurse. Following Bill’s retirement from the Navy, the Windress Family settled in Lakeside, CA, near San Diego. Barbara graduated from El Capitan High School in Lakeside and attended Grossmont College and San Diego State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Barbara worked as a registered nurse for 30 years, mostly for the VA hospital in La Jolla, CA.
Barbara married Roger Thomas Hartup in 1990, and they remained together until Roger’s death in 2020. Barbara and Roger loved to travel and visited many places all over the world. They both enjoyed baseball and saw many games at the old Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego—especially when Roger’s Phillies were in town to play Barbara’s Padres. They cared very much for one another and found happiness together.
Barbara was a Christian, raised in the Lutheran Church, and she believed in eternal salvation by faith alone, through the grace of God alone, because of Jesus Christ alone.
She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Ditlefsen, her niece, Lisa Christiansen, her nephews Ed (Tami) Ditlefsen, Erik Ditlefsen, Aaron Ditlefsen, and Jeffrey (Tori) Christiansen, as well as grandnieces Audrey and Laurelyn Ditlefsen, and grandnephews Cooper and Calvin Christiansen.
Barbara was a remarkable wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
Rest in Peace, Bub.
