Betty Jane “BJ” Bostic, 94, went to be with the Lord on July 12, 2024 in Conroe, Texas. She was born September 20, 1929, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho to Harry Russell Boswell and Selma Christina (Sellberg) Boswell.
She was a trailblazer for her generation, earning a bachelor’s degree from Montana State University, a Master’s in Special Education from the University of Kansas, and a second master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Oklahoma. Throughout her career, she worked as an educator, media specialist, and librarian. She was a devoted wife of a Presbyterian minister and a loving mother and grandmother. Her commitment to the needs of others was evidenced in her service to special needs children, coaching Special Olympics, social issues, the church, and low-income populations.
Betty Jane married the love of her life, Clayton Bostic, in Laurel, Montana. They had four children and were married for over 60 years. She was passionate about football, especially OU Sooners. She was an excellent cook, dressed to the nines, got her nails and hair done weekly, loved to celebrate, cherished her pups, craved chocolate shakes, played a mean game of bridge, and had a sharp wit. She lived in the Oklahoma City, OK area for many years and before that several other states.
Betty Jane is preceded in death by her husband Reverend Clayton Bostic, son Jonathan Bostic, parents, and beloved dachshund Oscar. She is survived by daughter Deborah Wenzel and husband Paul of Ruidoso, NM; daughter Chrissie Webster and husband Brett of Pauls Valley, OK; daughter Kathryn Tucker and husband Stan of Montgomery, TX; Jonathan’s wife Virginia Owensby,10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Special Olympics.
A celebration of life for Betty will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service & Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 1109 N Porter Ave, Norman, Oklahoma 73071.
