

Born on January 9, 1931, in Miami, Florida, Charles was the son of the late Charles William Sever, Sr. and Viola Webb Sever. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jim Sever.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Judith Smith, and his two sons, Charles William Sever, III and John Michael Sever. He was a proud grandfather to Kat Kraft, Emily Sever, Melissa Van Ness, Grace Sever, and Amelia Guerrero, as well as a beloved great-grandfather to eight great grandchildren who were a constant source of joy and pride.
He is also lovingly remembered by extended family members R.O. Smith, Sherry Dee Summers, and three lovely grandchildren, along with many others whose lives he touched through his warmth and wisdom.
Charles graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, GA with a Bachelor’s degree in Geology. He proudly served in the US Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He worked for the Environmental Protection Agency and co-authored the US 1987 Safe Drinking Water Act revisions. He lived a life defined by integrity, humility, and quiet strength. He valued family above all else and was known for his unwavering support, gentle humor, and the calm presence he brought to every room. He shared his stories, his love, and his time freely, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, resilience and devotion. Charles remained a champion bridge player and his place at the card table will be missed.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life at Rivermont Assisted Living on November 22, 2025 from 3-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those wishing to honor his memory to perform an act of kindness in his name.
