

Christine Laverne (Kindrick) Ernest died Wednesday, October 15, 2014. She was born April 28, 1922, in McAlister, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Farris Kindrick and Amy (Curlee) Kindrick; husband, Jewell Marshall Ernest; and an infant daughter, Rudine Ernest.
Christine graduated from McAlister High School in May and married Jewell in September of 1939. They moved to Norman in 1943 where Jewell had a job as a carpenter for a construction company building the Naval bases in Norman. Later Jewell left that employment to work as a carpenter for O.U. until his retirement. Upon moving to Norman in 1943, Christine and her family became active in First Baptist Church where she taught children's classes for many years and substituted in her own class in her later years. She and Jewell volunteered at the church Family Life Center as well. Both Christine and Jewell had accepted Christ as Savior at early ages and brought up all of their children to know, and in their own time accept Christ for themselves. Christine made a lifelong practice of spending time each evening with her Bible and in prayer.
Christine began working at Central State Hospital (Griffin Memorial) in 1949 as a nurse's aide. During, her career she became a licensed practical nurse and transferred to the Nursing Education Department where she completed her professional career as Instructor of Remotivation which she taught to hospital employees in Norman, in other mental health institutions in Oklahoma and in nursing homes. During her career she was once honored as the Oklahoma State Employee of the Year.
After retirement she and Jewell continued to enjoy attending O. U. sporting events, and began traveling around the country as long as their health permitted.
Christine leaves behind three sons and a daughter and their families: Melvin Ernest and wife, Rebecca, of Norman, their children Lorraine Ernest of Clifton NJ, Phillip Ernest and wife Lisa of Ft. Worth, TX, their children Ryan, Anna, and Rosalie; Jerry Ernest and wife Kaye, of Sugarland, TX, their children Brad Ernest and wife Kari of Tulsa, daughter, Ashlyn, Kim Craddock and husband Cliff of Heath, TX., their children Aiden and Brynn, and Susan Stevens and husband Burton, of Castle Rock, CO, son Preston, Deborah McGuire and husband Brannon of Sugarland. TX, and daughter Katie; Richard Ernest and wife Charlene of Oklahoma City, their daughter Amy Aita and husband Luis, their sons, Landon and Evan; Darlene Burner and husband Larry of McKinney. TX, their daughter Shelley Goldsberry and husband Mark of Garland, TX, their daughters Allyson, Erica, and Riley, and Melissa Lianthong and husband Sam of Sachse, TX, their children Lily and Luke.
Visitation will be at Primrose Funeral Service Monday, October 20, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and graveside services will be held at 100F cemetery of Norman at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 21, with the Rev. Jim Stewart, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church, Norman, presiding.
