Craig Windrix went big one last time on February 6, 2014, after a 10-month battle with the beast called stomach cancer. As this is extremely disappointing to all involved, we feel the need to give you a short synopsis of the man, myth, and legend that was Craig. He was born in Norman, OK on September 28, 1978, which was, coincidently, two years to the day after Russian MMA fighter Fedor Emelianenko. Much like Fedor, Craig was a great fighter who threw his illness to the ground and proceeded to pound it into submission, before being caught with a lucky swipe that ended the fight way too early. Everyone who ever met him, bar none, will miss him. Absolutely everyone. Every One.
Craig grew up in Purcell with his two brothers, Todd and Kyle Windrix, his mother Donna Windrix, and father Charles Windrix. He attended Purcell public schools until conquering high school in 1997. From there, Craig moved to Norman where he worked at the Greens as a supreme maintenance supervisor until the time of his affliction in March of 2013. His long time partner Dao Pham lived with “her hubby” in Norman, where he amassed an almost uncountable number of friends, admirers, Call of Duty adversaries, and movie companions. Craig loved movies (except for that ridiculous Harry Potter series), wakeboarding, snowboarding, heavy metal, cheesecake(s), Sonic® cherry limeades, and hanging out with his friends and family. He was never too scared to be one of the first with a Nissan Titan when surrounded by F150s and Silverados. He would never scold you too badly when you put too many egg shells down the garbage disposal. And most of all, he would make you laugh at the drop of a hat.
Family will receive friends at Primrose Funeral Service Wednesday from 6:00-8:00p.m.. Services for the Merman will be at the Norman Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Thursday, February 13, at 10:00 am, with graveside to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
Funeral services for Craig have been entrusted to the care of Primrose Funeral Service. Online condolences can be made at www.primrosefuneralservice.com.
