Curtis was born February 11, 1940, in Virgil, Oklahoma, to Earl Walker and Gracie Alene (Songer) Potts. He grew up in Norman and attended Norman High. He joined the United States Navy in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1961. He married the love of his life, Quantilla Sue Curry on December 21, 1958 in Norman. They moved back to Norman in 1961. Curtis worked as a commercial carpenter for several years before opening his own business, Curtis Potts Storm Shelters. He retired after over 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling, bowling, and spending time at his cabin in the Kiamichi Mountains. He and Quantilla loved to travel all over the U.S. and abroad. He will always be remembered as “10 feet tall and bulletproof”.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Quantilla Sue; one son: Kelly Potts and Lorrie Miranda; one daughter: Lori Deo and husband, Darl Deo; eight grandchildren: Joshua Potts, Angie Dailey, Emily Elgin, Tyler Potts, Haleigh Elgin, Don Curtis Elgin, Abby Potts, and Corina Potts: one great grandchild: Avery Potts; two sisters: Joy Campbell and Jequita McDaniel; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Eric Potts; one grandson: Aaron Potts; one sister: Wanda Byars; and his mother and father-in-law: Joe and Juanita Curry.
A celebration of life will be 1 pm Friday, February 22, 2019, at the family’s home, please bring your favorite dish to share.
