Douglas Forsyth passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2020. He had fought a valiant battle with neuroendocrine cancer for the last three years. Doug was always active in the community and his church. Doug attended Memorial Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and tenor in the choir for over thirty years. Doug was active in United Way, Norman Business Association, Norman Envisioners, and Cleveland County Emergency Management. He was a Fellow in the American Meteorological Society. Doug was a founding member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter while attending South Dakota State University. He had many influential postings while in the US Air Force including the Palehua Solar Observatory in Hawaii and the Pentagon. He left the US Air Force after 14 years of service and settled in Norman, Oklahoma. Doug worked at the National Severe Storms Laboratory until his retirement in 2012. During that time, he served as project manager on behalf of NOAA during the planning, design and construction of the National Weather Center. Doug cherished visiting his South Dakota hometown every summer & the lake, boating, puzzles and many other hobbies such as bowling, bass guitar & amateur radio. He enjoyed amateur radio as a member of SCARS (South Canadian Amateur Radio Society) supplying radio support for numerous Marathons and severe weather seasons.
Doug is survived by his wife, Ann and four children: James Ottman, Ross Forsyth, Holly Forsyth, Rachel Forsyth Klenda (Michael) & two granddaughters Darcy & Millie; his brother Merlyn Forsyth and wife Jean; brother-in-law John Yates and wife Barbara; as well as his many nieces, nephews & cousins. The family held a private service and will hold a Celebration of Life service in the Spring. After his retirement, Doug founded the National Weather Museum & Science Center in Norman, Oklahoma.
