Earl Edgar Childress, 77, of Norman, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011. He was born December 4, 1933 to Earl and Bulah (Dabney) Childress. He was a lifetime resident of the Norman- Little Axe area where he attended Norman Public Schools. He married his wife of 58 years, Jewell McCaslin, in 1952. They made their home in Norman where they raised their three children and where he resided until his death. Edgar worked construction at Tinker Field followed by 20 years at Kunkels Heating & Air. He retired as a custom home builder. Growing up, Edgar was an avid baseball and softball player and in his later years he enjoyed fishing, hunting and working on his farm. One of his favorite past-times included spending holidays with his grandchildren, family and friends. He was looking forward to the annual “Childress” Easter egg hunt when he passed away.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Bulah Childress; his sisters, Imogene Childress and Joann Followwill and his beloved son, Ronald Edgar Childress.
He is survived by his wife, Jewell of the home; two daughters, Vondale Salem and husband Emmet of Noble, Cathy Brown and husband Gary, of Noble; six grandchildren, Jeff Salem and wife Stacy, Chandra Stewart, Brandy Miller and husband Derrik, Josh Brown, Ashley Childress and Nichole Childress; a great grandchild, Zayden Miller; a brother, Charles Childress and two sisters, June Smith and Vickie Holley.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Primrose Funeral Service from 8am to 8pm on Thursday, April 28 with the family present to greet from 6-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Primrose Funeral Service in Norman, Oklahoma on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 2 p.m.
