Known affectionately by her childhood nickname “Sue”, she carried that name and spirit with her throughout her life. Exceptionally bright, she was able to test out of and skip two grades and graduated from La Feria High School in 1951 at the age of 16. She was known for her intellect and curiosity, competing in numerous area and state academic contests. Her kindness, gentleness and friendship were evident as she grew up in La Feria, and in high school she became class valedictorian, was voted head cheerleader and named homecoming queen by her friends and classmates.
Sue moved to Portland, Oregon following graduation, where her first two children, Charles (Chuck) and Stephen (Steve) were born, and she worked as an executive assistant to the CEO of U-Haul. She returned to South Texas a few years later, and in 1957, while living in Harlingen, Texas, she met the love of her life, James (Jim) Francis Allison, who was stationed as a USAF Lieutenant at Harlingen Air Force Base. They married on April 11, 1959, and moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, where Jim was promoted to Captain and posted at Keesler Air Force Base.
They relocated to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1961, where their family grew as they welcomed two more children, Jeffrey (Jeff) and Diane. Together, Sue and Jim built a life centered on family, faith, and service, raising their four children and enjoying travel and time with their extended family and friends. Sue was an exceptional, strong and caring mother and wife, managing a busy home with young children, and gracefully enduring the loss of her son, Steve, who passed away at a young age in 1968. Faith being at the heart of Sue’s life, she taught Sunday School and faithfully served in her church’s nursery every week for many decades, nurturing the spiritual lives of countless children.
Sue also returned to work outside the home as a medical receptionist once her children were in school. She was known for her kindness, patience, and steady presence with patients and their families. She was a lifelong sports and football fan, cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners every Fall Saturday, a passion she and Jim proudly passed along to the many OU fans and graduates in their family.
Sue and Jim continued to make Oklahoma City their home for many years, and later spent time living in Texas and Colorado, before retiring to Bixby, Oklahoma. In 2017, she and Jim settled in Norman, Oklahoma, where she spent her later years meeting and making new friends, enjoying family and friends in nearby Oklahoma City, and extending the amazing influence she had on so many lives.
Sue had many passions, but above all she loved her family. She hosted gatherings and celebrations that became treasured family memories. She was famous for her cooking — especially her enchiladas, a family favorite enjoyed at many family get togethers. She found joy in travel, reading, cooking, and creating a home filled with warmth.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim; her son, Stephen Perry Allison; her parents, Perry and Ethel Bond; and her sisters, Virginia (Bond) Smith and Patricia (Bond) Daniel.
She is survived by her children Charles Robert Allison (spouse Janelle), Jeffrey James Allison (spouse Elizabeth), and Diane Sullivan (spouse Parker, deceased 2016); her sister-in-law Elaine Allison; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who dearly loved her. All who knew her will fondly remember her grace, generosity, strength and intellect, and the love she poured into everyone around her – she will be greatly missed.
Graveside funeral services and interment will be held at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 3PM. The family invites all who knew Sue to join them in celebrating her remarkable life, her faith, and her enduring love for family and friends as she is laid to rest.
