Glenn G. Jones, Sr., 75, of Norman was born October 27, 1937 in Oklahoma City.He passed away Thursday, August 1 in Oklahoma City. He lived and attended school in Oklahoma City, and graduated from OKC Central High in 1955. Glenn worked from 12 years old through graduation as a caddie at Lincoln Park Golf Course along with brother Kenneth. He and Kenneth, along with Junior and Dale Watson, were city golf champions. They traded their clubs for M-16s when they joined the Marine Corp in 1956 where he became a veteran of two atomic bomb blasts. He was discharged in 1959 as sergeant. Glenn hitchhiked back to OKC where he was hired on as a lineman for OG&E. He met and married his wife of 53 years, Corene (Kirtley) Jones on December 5, 1959. Born to them were two sons, Glenn Jr in 1960, and Gregg, in 1966. They moved to Canton, Oklahoma in 1972, where they lived until his retirement in 1994 when they moved to Norman in 1994 to be near their beloved Sooners. He enjoyed the next several years playing about a million rounds of golf at the OU Golf Club where he also worked as Marshal. He and Corene were led by The Lord to Robinson Street Baptist Church where he was shepherded by pastor Bill Blair and where he met his Lord. He served and became a Deacon and faithful servant to many. His fight for life has been an inspiration to all that knew him well and although we will miss him, we rejoice in where he has gone, in the room that had been prepared in advance for him.

He was preceded in death by brother Jimmy Jones and sister Doris Froehmer. He is survived by his wife, Corene Jones, sister Jannell Eisenbrey and husband Steve, brother Kenneth and wife Barbara, son Gregg Jones and his wife Carol, granddaughter Kelli Jones-Apple and husband Justin, great-granddaughters Joie and Jaycie and great-granddaughter in-waiting Kinleigh; son Glenn Jr. and his wife Kimmie, step grandson Wade Iven, grandson Noah and his wife Lindsey and great-granddaughter Chloee and grandson Matty Jones as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved family members.

I've had the opportunity to meet Glenn and Corene through their son Gregg. They have been so kind to open their house to us and serve up some great game day meals! We really enjoyed hanging out with Glenn, Corene and the Sooner family when we were in Norman. Glenn always had a good joke and welcomed us into his home. When our children were sick, we always knew Glenn & Corene were praying for them. As a co-worker and friend with his son Gregg, I have seen what a great job Glenn did in raising a son. I am thankful that I got know Glenn and my prayers are with Corene and the family at this time.

I met Glenn this past year at Jimmie Austin. I played golf with him some and always enjoyed talking with him when he was driving the course filing in divots. He was always friendly and I enjoyed getting to know him. I will miss seeing him at the course.
