Greyson Lee Burnett, 20, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on September 22, 2026, following an eleven-month battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. He leaves behind family and friends who loved him beyond measure and a lifetime of memories that will forever be cherished.
Born October 26, 2005, in Norman, Oklahoma, to Summer Thompson Burnett and Steven Clay Burnett, Greyson brought immeasurable joy into their lives from the very beginning. A handsome, brown-eyed little boy with a bright spirit, an infectious smile, and an endearing gift for conversation, he had a way of capturing the hearts of everyone around him. Greyson would have celebrated his twenty-first birthday on October 26, 2026.
His mother, Summer, was a constant source of love, encouragement, and support throughout his life. As a hardworking single mother, she raised Greyson and his younger sister, Addilynn, with dedication, humor, and a determination to give them a happy and loving home. While working at OU Children’s Hospital, Summer balanced the demands of her career with raising her children and creating a home where Greyson and his friends were always welcome. Greyson was deeply proud of his beautiful, vibrant mother. Through Sunday worship with St. Luke’s and Dr. Bob Long, she also taught her children the importance of faith and prayer. When Greyson became ill, Summer stepped away from her career to devote herself entirely to his care. She tirelessly advocated for him, securing treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and remaining faithfully by his side, day and night, throughout his illness.
Greyson shared an especially close and loving relationship with his younger sister, Addilynn. Protective of her from the very beginning, he would gently remove her hair bows as a baby because he worried they might be hurting her. As a kindergartner, he would race home from school, head straight to her bedroom, and wake her from her nap simply because he could not wait to see her. Addilynn adored her big brother just as much. Even as a baby, she would cry whenever Greyson was upset. As they grew older, their relationship developed into a beautiful friendship filled with love, admiration, and unwavering loyalty.
His cousins, Trey and Blake Thompson, grew up alongside him and were more like brothers than cousins. Trey’s fiancée, Taylor Hoss, was also a cherished part of the family. His Uncle Ben and Aunt Kelli held special places in his heart, and he shared an especially close relationship with Kelli. Greyson also treasured his Mammie Debbie, BoPa Steve, and the lifelong friends who brought so much laughter, adventure, and happiness into his life.
Greyson graduated from Noble High School in 2024 and was attending Oklahoma City Community College, where he was in his second year and proudly made the honor roll. He also worked at Jimmy Austin Golf Course at OU for three years, a job he truly loved. More than just a place of employment, the golf course became a special part of his life. He enjoyed the work, the friendships he formed, and the many wonderful people he had the opportunity to meet along the way. He took pride in his job and looked forward to being there. When his cancer diagnosis forced him to stop working, it was one of the many parts of his normal life that he deeply missed. He missed the familiar faces, the friendships, and the simple joy of going to a job he loved.
Even at a young age, Greyson possessed a remarkable sense of responsibility and independence. Organized, resourceful, and wise beyond his years, he was someone his family could always depend on. Following the sudden passing of his beloved grandfather in 2019, Greyson became a source of strength for his mother, grandmother, and sister. Whether something needed repairing, a problem needed solving, or someone simply needed advice, Greyson was always ready to help. He had a quiet confidence and a reassuring presence that made even the most difficult moments feel a little easier.
Greyson and his grandfather shared a love of classic cars, spending countless hours working together to restore them and attending car shows. His Uncle Ben also helped him restore his first Camaro, creating special memories that Greyson treasured. His passion for cars continued throughout his life, and he took great pride in owning two beautiful Camaros.
Greyson had an adventurous imagination and a deep fascination with history. He loved visiting museums throughout the United States and dreamed of traveling the world, particularly to explore the ancient pyramids of Egypt and the Mayan ruins of Mexico. Greyson especially loved Florida and spending time at the beach. The ocean was one of his favorite places, where he could relax, enjoy life, and make lasting memories with the people he loved. Another place he especially enjoyed was Pagosa Springs, Colorado, where he loved relaxing in the natural hot springs surrounded by the beauty of the mountains. These experiences reflected his appreciation for nature, adventure, and discovering new places. A devoted movie enthusiast, his favorite films were the Indiana Jones adventures. His lifelong love of LEGO began when he was a toddler and grew into an impressive collection, with his Indiana Jones sets holding a particularly special place among his favorites.
Animals also held a special place in Greyson’s heart. For his fourth birthday, he received a Shih Tzu puppy whom he named Pistol Pete, after the Oklahoma State University mascot, affectionately calling him “Petie.” The two grew up together, and losing Petie in 2023 was heartbreaking for Greyson. He later welcomed his beloved Goldendoodle, Harrison, whom he named after Harrison Ford, the actor who brought his favorite adventurer, Indiana Jones, to life.
As a young boy, Greyson enjoyed playing football and especially loved having his father serve as an assistant coach. After spending years apart, Greyson and his father were able to reconnect during his illness.
Greyson also enjoyed cooking and grilling for the people he loved. Cooking was one of the many ways Greyson showed his love. Whether preparing a meal, helping around the house, or offering thoughtful advice, he found happiness in taking care of others.
Throughout his illness, Greyson faced extraordinary challenges with courage and determination. Surrounded by the unwavering love of his mother, family, and friends, he continued to demonstrate the strength, humor, and remarkable character that had always defined him. Although his life was far too short, the impact he made on those who knew and loved him will endure forever.
Greyson leaves behind his devoted mother, Summer Thompson Burnett; his father, Steven Clay Burnett; his beloved younger sister, Addilynn; his Mammie Debbie; his Uncle Ben and Aunt Kelli; his cousins, Trey and Blake Thompson; Trey’s fiancée, Taylor Hoss; his cherished dog, Harrison; and many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather, Steve E. Thompson.
A Celebration of Life honoring Greyson will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., at Primrose Funeral Service, 3901 N. Flood Avenue, Norman, Oklahoma 73069.
Twenty years could never be enough for those who loved Greyson. Yet within those years are countless beautiful memories: a little boy racing home to see his baby sister, a grandson working alongside his grandfather on classic cars, a young man building LEGO sets, dreaming of distant adventures, enjoying the beaches of Florida, and preparing a special meal for his family.
Greyson will forever be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit, adventurous spirit, remarkable intelligence, and the quiet strength he brought to those around him. His life was a gift, his love was immeasurable, and his memory will live on in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
Greyson, you were loved beyond words, and you will be missed beyond measure.
