

Ira “Butch” Hugh Patterson Jr., age 83, passed away peacefully at home on June 19, 2026 in Norman, Oklahoma surrounded by his family. Ira was born February 23, 1943 in Fairview, Oklahoma to Ira Hugh Patterson Sr. and Laura Margaret (Osborne) Patterson.
In 1967, Ira earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Business from Northeastern State College. Demonstrating his lifelong commitment to learning, he later earned a degree in Micro-Computer Support Technology, specializing in computer use, maintenance, and repair, from Moore Technical Center in 1998.
Ira enjoyed a successful 25-year career with Conoco, Inc. in Ponca City, where he worked as an accountant and field auditor. He later served as a Systems Analyst for Hertz in Oklahoma City before retiring in 2006. He proudly served his country through the Navy ROTC program and as a member of both the Army and Air Force Reserves.
Outside of his professional life, Ira embraced many passions. He loved fishing, woodworking, jazz music, playing the trombone, and singing. Music held a special place in his heart, and he shared his talents as a member of his church choir, the Norman Singers, and the OCCC Choir in Oklahoma City. He was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and Habitat for Humanity for a period of time. A talented photographer, Ira developed his love for photography while serving as a photographer for his college newspaper.
Ira was a proud member of the Phi Lambda Xi Fraternity at Northeastern State College. His faith remained an important part of his life, and he was a devoted member of both the Presbyterian Church and later McFarlin United Methodist Church.
On July 2, 1966, Ira married the love of his life, Delorus Jean Whalen. Together they shared 42 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on November 24, 2008. In time, Ira found love again and married Robbie Charlene Lafoon Maxwell on May 22, 2011. Together they shared 15 happy years filled with companionship, laughter, and cherished memories.
Ira was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Hugh Patterson Sr. and Laura Margaret Osborne Patterson, and by his first wife, Delorus Jean Patterson.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory, including his wife, Robbie Charlene Patterson; daughters, Katrina Wyckoff and husband Mark, and Stephanie Hodges and husband Timothy; grandchildren Jonathan, Robby, and Joshua Wyckoff, and Nathan, Ashlynn, and Lauren Hodges; sister, Ann Patterson-Salazar; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life honoring Ira, affectionately known as "Butch," will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 11, 2026, at Primrose Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or The Salvation Army in Ira's honor.
