James Francis Allison
March 26, 1932 – October 5, 2021
James (Jim) Francis Allison, 89, of Norman, formerly of Bixby, Silverthorne, Colorado, and Oklahoma City, passed away peacefully of natural causes on October 5, 2021 at his home in Norman, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on March 26, 1932 in Oklahoma City, the son of Francis Julian and Myrtle Mash Allison. Jim spent his early years in Oklahoma City, and moved with his family to Enid, where he graduated from Enid High School in 1950. He went on to attend the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated with a bachelors degree in business administration. He joined the United States Air Force, was commissioned as a lieutenant and trained as a navigator with postings in Harlingen, Texas and Biloxi, Mississippi, reaching the rank of Captain before leaving active duty in 1960. He met his beloved Sue while stationed in Harlingen, Texas and they were married on April 11, 1959. Jim adopted Sue’s two sons, Charles and Stephen, shortly after their marriage, and they moved to Oklahoma City where he and Sue raised their family. Jim began a long career in sales and was best known for introducing several new medications into the State of Oklahoma as a pharmaceutical sales representative. Jim and Sue were long-time members of their church congregations in the cities where they lived, and Jim had a life-long love of scripture study. He was an avid traveler, golfer, car collector, gardener and reader, and had a love for discussing many topics, including politics and religion. He volunteered for many years at area nursing homes and prison ministries. He had a heart for helping anyone in need, supporting many nonprofit causes throughout his life. One of Jim’s passions was the University of Oklahoma and Sooner football, where he and Sue were decades-long season ticket holders. He was particularly proud of the legacy he established as the first of many OU graduates in his family. Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edna (Sue), three children, Charles and his wife Janelle, of Bixby, Jeffrey and his wife Elizabeth, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Diane Sullivan of Frisco, Texas; his grandchildren, Joshua Allison and his wife Kassie, Leah Stark and her husband Josh, Ethan Allison and his wife Kara, Hannah Price and her husband Chris, Mark Allison, Connor Allison, Carson Allison, Lauren Asay, Ross Allison, Logan Asay, Ian Sullivan and Olivia Sullivan; eight great-grandchildren; his brother Bob and his wife Elaine; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Jeanette Shrum; his son, Stephen Perry Allison; and his son-in-law, Parker Sullivan. The Allison family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the outpouring of care and compassion Jim received from family, Jim and Sue’s many friends and neighbors, and those who provided medical care to Jim in recent weeks. Jim’s family is grateful for everyone’s kindness, concern and support.
