James Lee Chambers, 73, of Norman passed away September 6, 2018 at his home. He was born September 17, 1944 in Carlsbad, NM to James Newton and Irma Chambers. On November 12, 1977 he married Jane Curry in Oklahoma City.

Jim led a very happy, busy life and loved to tell jokes - he felt there was “no bad joke like a dad joke.” He loved to travel, and went on many cruises and road-trips with his family. During his thirty years as a railroad Signalman, he was known for being highly organized, and continued to be even in retirement - much to the delight of his beloved wife. He was an exceptional pool player and even earned his first date with Jane with his skills. His family saw him as an Animal Whisperer who could speak to any type of animal, from a dog to an opossum. Most of all he loved his family and was a very proud husband and father.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter: Rebecca Chambers of McKinney, TX; siblings: Diane and husband Ron Tucker of Norman, Nancy and husband Chris Lange of Oklahoma City, OK.; seven nieces and nephews; one grand-dog: Louie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother: Michael Lynn Chambers and loyal companion Bruiser.

A celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday September 19, 2018 at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church. Pastor Devon Krause will officiate.

Arrangements entrusted to Primrose Funeral Service, Norman, OK.

I remember when I first told Papa Chambers that I was pregnant. He was so excited for me and my husband!!! Every single time we saw each other or spoke on the phone he would ask me how our little guy was doing. It warmed my heart so much that he cared the way he did for my unborn child. Well, about a month after Nathaniel was born, Papa Chambers got to meet him. He shared that same enthusiasm then. He smiled big and asked to hold him. As a result I got this amazing picture of the two of them. I am so glad they got to meet and I will be sure to tell our little Nathaniel all the great stories of Papa Chambers and of course pass on the wonderful and sometimes horrible dad jokes!!!

Hahahaha so before Christmas 2017, Jim asked me what was somethings he could get Becca. I told him anything Slytherin from Harry Potter since that was her house. I then told him that I was a Ravenclaw. Well I’m the process, there was some confusion and we all ended up sporting slytherin beanies Christmas Day. While that may not be my house, I will forever sport that beanie and smile each time I wear it!!!

Papa Chambers and I continues the weekly brunch tradition as long as we could. We frequented Jimmys Egg most Sunday’s. This particular visit we were missing Becca so Papa Chambers was like “Oh we need to take a self and send it to Becky!” So glad I have this great picture of us!!!
