James “Jimmy” Marion Kappel, 66, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on September 10, 2026, in Oklahoma City. He was born on December 30, 1959, in Oklahoma City to Adolf Doyle and Joyce Ann Kappel.
A lifelong resident of Oklahoma City, Jimmy attended Oklahoma City Public Schools. He dedicated 34 years to Dolese, where his commitment to workplace safety earned him numerous Safety Awards.
On September 29, 1990, Jimmy married Jennifer Susan Smith. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Jimmy’s greatest joy was his family. His wife, daughter, and granddaughter were his entire world, and he took great pride in being a loving husband, devoted father, and the very best “Papa” to Emma.
Jimmy taught his family many valuable lessons: to be independent, never begin something without finishing it, and, just as importantly, how to properly season meat for the grill. Through his example, he showed them what it meant to put family first and to love others wholeheartedly.
Jimmy enjoyed cooking and grilling for those he loved, listening to country, western, and rock-and-roll music, watching NASCAR and OU football, and relaxing with western movies. He also enjoyed classic television programs such as The Andy Griffith Show and Leave It to Beaver, as well as Law & Order.
Jimmy will be remembered most for the way he loved others and for the unwavering devotion he showed his family. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the meals he shared, and the countless memories created with those closest to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolf and Joyce Kappel; his son, James Marion Kappel Jr.; his siblings, Debbie Allred, Karen Joslin, and Doug Kappel; and his brother-in-law, David Allred.
Those left to cherish Jimmy’s memory include his loving wife, Jennifer Kappel; his daughter, Taylor Jean Muzny and her husband, Kye, of Norman; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Kappel of Edmond; his beloved granddaughter, Emma Kate Muzny; his brothers, Gary Kappel and his wife, Shirley, of Cushing, and Mike Kappel and his wife, Debbie, of Oklahoma City; six nieces; six nephews; and many other loving relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on September 17, 2026, at Primrose Funeral Service, 3901 N Flood Ave., Norman, OK 73069, US. The family encourages guests to wear their favorite sports teams or sport team colors, as long as it is not the color orange.
