Jane Ellen “Janie” McIntosh, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away surrounded by family on March 22, 2025. Born on April 3, 1948, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Janie was the eldest daughter of Bob Robertson and Alma Lambert.
Janie dedicated 15 years of her career to Norman Public Schools, where she not only made a lasting impact on countless students but also formed lifelong friendships. In 1996, she moved to Okinawa to stay with her daughter and complete her Bachelor of Science degree, graduating cum laude from the University of Maryland. Upon returning to Norman, she continued her education, earning her Master’s degree in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma—teaching those around her that learning is a lifelong endeavor.
Janie was devoted to family. She made sure her children and grandson always knew they were cherished and welcomed their spouses with the same love. Every holiday was special, filled with warmth, tradition, and a lots of homemade candy. She was always there with a favorite meal when they were sick, even well into adulthood. She laughed often, found the positive in every situation, and created a home where love and kindness flourished. Even the neighborhood kids adored her, drawn in by her warmth and welcoming spirit. In 2009, she moved to Tulsa to care for her mother, demonstrating the same love and devotion to family that she had always shown.
Janie had a passion for travel. She loved exploring new places and revisiting old favorites. Some of her most cherished trips included stays at the state cabins, sister trips to Branson, vacations with her daughters and grandson, and unforgettable journeys through Europe with her nieces. She delighted in the planning just as much as the trip itself, savoring every detail in anticipation of the memories to be made. Janie loved to sing and raised her family on the sounds of John Denver, Anne Murray, and Simon & Garfunkel. She often found herself humming old gospel tunes, a sweet reminder of her father. Her perfect day was spent with family—relaxing on the patio, exploring new destinations, or rescuing plants to nurture back to life. She especially loved being in the water, whether in the ocean, an Oklahoma lake, or swimming with her family in the backyard pool. She spent her life making the world around her more beautiful—whether through her love of gardening, crafting, or simply bringing people together.
Janie’s heart was always full when surrounded by her loved ones, including her cherished cats, who were her constant companions. She found joy in watching their playful mischief and cared for them as part of the family.
She is survived by her daughters, Nicole McIntosh (Christopher Welniak) of Norman, OK, and Jennifer McIntosh (Leslie Rhodes) of Norman, OK; grandson Tyler Bone of Norman; Sisters Bobbie Rhyne (Gary Rhyne) of Jones, and Paula Woods (Larry Woods) of Sapulpa and her brother, David Robertson (Gail Robertson) of Wausau, WI. She was preceded in death by her father Bob Robertson and mother Alma Pruitt and 2 nieces, Dani Tedder and Shannon Melot.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that Janie will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, warmth, and unwavering love. She truly lived life to the fullest, never turning down an invitation for fun and always embracing the beauty in every moment. Janie’s memory will live on in the laughter she inspired, the gardens she nurtured, and the love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her.
